As has been written about previously. Laurel-Bowie Road in Laurel, Maryland is a frequent location of major car and truck crashes including fatalities.
The Prince George's County Police Department cites population density and thoroughfare roads as a significant reason and certainly Laurel neighborhoods adjacent to Laurel-Bowie Road are densely populated.
Laurel-Bowie Road also serves to connect the I-95 corridor with 295 and fields a lot of traffic that is not merely local residents. As a regular driver on the road there are many vehicles weaving in and out of the ever shifting lanes in an effort to cut through heavy traffic.
There are also school zones which properly serve to slow down the traffic but the response to them sometimes is abrupt and swerving vehicles is commonplace.
The Baltimore-Washington Parkway also seems prone to engendering chases that end on Laurel- Bowie Road with collisions.
Finally parts of the road near Powder Mill Road are vastly less developed and were the situs of a recent crash.
The answer is drive defensively and gently and don't drive buzzed or distracted.
