Maryland Court of Appeals, Chief Judge, Mary Ellen Barbera has ordered the reopening of Maryland courts for most functions including civil jury trials. After a multi-month hiatus, this development will serve as a lubricant toward settlement and resolution of innumerable personal injury cases languishing in the Maryland court system.
There has been little incentive for insurance carriers in car and truck crash injury cases to make fair offers absent the prospect of jurors issuing verdicts in excess of the meager offers made by liability insurers.
To be sure, jury trials will be conducted differently with covid-19 protocols in place but this welcome reopening bodes well for injured victims of personal injury statewide.
