Maryland Courts Are Set To Reopen June 8th. What does that mean for personal injury cases?

courtMaryland courts are tentatively slated to reopen June 8, 2020 according to Chief Judge of the Court Appeals Mary Ellen Barbera in testimony before the Maryland General Assembly. She indicated that this date was subject to further input and that it "will not be business as usual".

What does that mean for Maryland personal injury litigants? The answer is we have no idea. Jury trials, seems impossible given the proximity of jurors to one another and the litigants and their attorneys.

Regular bench trials, maybe but again the dockets are filled with litigants and the quarters tight. One presumes that cases will be done through videoconferencing but many lawyers and their clients will find this objectionable. Stay tuned....
