Deadly Miami Boating Crash A Reminder For Maryland Water safety

Posted on Jul 07, 2014

A tragic Fourth of July boat crash killed four people and injured eight others in Miami. The incident occurred in the aftermath of a fireworks show, as boaters were hustling back to Dinner Key Marina, when a 32 foot boat struck another boat. The force of the impact knocked the boat operator into the water and the boat continued moving at 20 to 25 mph without any guiding hand.

As a result the boat struck another boat injuring one person on that vessel. Finally, a heroic salvage vessel commandeered the out of control boat and brought it to rest. It is unknown if alcohol was involved and an investigation continues.

The obvious lesson for Maryland boaters slow down at night especially when in circumstances where many other boaters are present and don't boat drunk.
