Unnecessary Heart Stent Letters Sent to 585 Patients. Are there more?

Okay, the Baltimore Sun reports more than 585 "oops we might have given you a stent you don't need " letters have been sent to heart patients treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Towson , Maryland. How many more people were not informed is subject to much speculation. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-st.joseph-peer-review-20100528,0,818726.story

How on earth this was permitted to happen is a popular subject as well. It is reported that the chairman of the department was able to operate without scrutiny in hand-picking patients in whom to implant stents, evidently  often unnecessarily.

Doubtless money was the motive but was it money for the hospital, the doctors, the stent company or everybody? What of compensation for the patient/victims? More to come.
