The Consumer Product Safety Commission has published its 2010 snapshot of child swimming pool drownings. The numbers are disturbing, more than 350 child drownings and non-fatal incidents during the traditional Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend swimming season.

The safety steps C.P.S.C. recommends  includes fencing around all four sides of the pool, heavy duty pool covers, and pool alarms on doors leading from the home to the pool.

Not surprisingly, 3/4's of the incidents involved children under the age of four. It is also recommended that rescue equipment and a cordless phone poolside be readily available.
