Metro Gets New Scrutiny

Metro has shown a recent penchant for attracting governmental scrutiny owing to enormous ongoing safety problems.
This makes news but is not good for business. And what is bad for business concerns everyone locally particularly two big players in the local business community.

The Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments are two just such players. They have vowed to devote time and resources to fixing the problem.

They are combining their forces to make some suggestions to get Metro back to its former status. Their suggestions, to be delivered later this summer are likely to be focused on Metro's governance and operating structure with the recognition that Metro may need a good old-fashioned restructuring.

It will be interesting to see if they come up with anything either new or helpful. Here is hoping they do.

While overall Maryland and the District of Columbia have very safe transportation systems the sheer number of people using them and the nature of the buses and trains utilized results in catastrophic injuries on a fairly routine basis.
