Some weekends seem to be more hazardous than others here in Prince Georges County and sadly this was one of them. Two crashes killed people, one involving a pedestrian in Forestville and another in Accokeek involving two cars colliding when one evidently ran a stop sign.

The Forestville accident took place on Pennsylvania Avenue in the 6500 block, when a pedestrian in dark clothing was reportedly struck while standing in the westbound lanes. The driver of the Ford F-150 truck which struck Dedrick Antoine Harvey, fled the scene. The hit and run driver was waylaid by Maryland State Police at the intersection of Walker Mill Road and Marlboro Pike. That driver, a Lanham resident, was detained and charges are pending based upon further police investigation. http://www.tbd.com/blogs/tbd-latest/2011/03/man-hurt-in-p-g-hit-and-run-9196.html

The second crash, in Accokeek on Piscataway Road at the intersection with Floral Park road, killed a 19-year-old woman from Largo. Kianna Christy Thomas, was a passenger in a Nissan Versa going north on Piscataway road which was struck by a Mercury Grand Marquis which reportedly ran a stop sign. Two other occupants of the Nissan were severely injured and were taken to area hospitals.

Police are looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the Accokeek crash. http://www.gazette.net/stories/03062011/prinnew80334_32565.php
