Alejandro Roman of Montgomery County Maryland was sentenced to a 12-year jail sentence in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County in Rockville. Judge Nelson Rupp handed out a heavy sentence in part as a message to other would be drunk drivers particularly in light of the deadly Olney, Maryland tragedy of last weekend. http://www.maryland-law.com/blog/deadly-crashes-maryland-drivers-common-denominator-alcohol.cfm

The crash on Rockville Pike took place in the early morning hours of October 10, 2010 after Mr. Roman and two friends were out celebrating a birthday. All deadly crashes are tragic but this incident in which Mr. Roman struck and killed his two friends was filled with a particular degree of pathos. http://kensington.patch.com/articles/two-pedestrians-struck-killed-on-wisconsin-avenue-early-sunday

Mr. Roman had no prior alcohol-related driving infractions and so his sentence for manslaughter by vehicle was unusually stiff and well outside the guidelines applicable.
