Alejandro Roman of Montgomery County Maryland was sentenced to a 12-year jail sentence in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County in Rockville. Judge Nelson Rupp handed out a heavy sentence in part as a message to other would be drunk drivers particularly in light of the deadly Olney, Maryland tragedy of last weekend.

The crash on Rockville Pike took place in the early morning hours of October 10, 2010 after Mr. Roman and two friends were out celebrating a birthday. All deadly crashes are tragic but this incident in which Mr. Roman struck and killed his two friends was filled with a particular degree of pathos.

Mr. Roman had no prior alcohol-related driving infractions and so his sentence for manslaughter by vehicle was unusually stiff and well outside the guidelines applicable.
