Children's Tylenol Recall Shows It's Not Just Cars

It is always dangerous when medicines are manufactured under unsafe or unsanitary conditions. This is even more problematic when the medicines are made for children.

The Food and Drug administration learned that Johnson and Johnson's sole plant where children's Tylenol and chidren's Motrin are manufactured  is contaminated with bacteria and is seriously lacking in quality controls.

The FDA reports that  McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson and Johnson, had received 46 complaints of foreign materials in their medications and had failed determine either the cause or how to fix this problem.

FDA inspectors were winding up a ten day inspection of the manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania which was in part prompted by problems discovered at a McNeil plant in Puerto Rico last year.

None of the problems appear life-threatening but it has prompted a voluntary recall of McNeil's 43 pediatric over the counter medicines.
