Sometimes the wheels of governmental analysis move slowly, so we are just learning the recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board with regard to the deadly 2008 Maryland Bay Bridge tractor trailer crash. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-ntsb-bay-bridge-recommendations20101125,0,1646524.story

That incident involving a young driver swerving into the path of a tractor trailer on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, took the life of the truck's driver when he swerved to avoid colliding with the car and this took him off the bridge into the bay. http://www.maryland-law.com/blog/bay-bridge-tractor-trailer-crash-breeds-lawsuit.cfm

The N.T.S.B. used radar to determine that there were voids in concrete barriers on the bridge which allowed them to collect moisture which in turn corroded bolts holding the barriers together. Since this deadly truck crash the barriers have been reinforced.
