A kindergarten filed trip to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. took a dangerous turn when the charter bus containing both children and adults was involved in a crash with a Volkswagen SUV in Centreville, Maryland today.

The crash took place on Maryland Route 213 at its intersection with White Marsh Road. The SUV was reportedly attempting to merge onto Southbound 213 a little after 9 this morning and pulled into the charter bus's path causing the bus driver to take evasive action to avoid a collision. http://www.abc27.com/Global/story.asp?S=14633506

The bus swerved onto the shoulder and struck a utility pole and thereafter turned onto its side.The crash is said to have injured 17 people, 1 of whom had to be flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by helicopter.

The incident which took place in Queen Anne's County involved parents and students from Worton Elementary School in Kent County.
