2009 Aviation Crashes Down

The National Transportation Safety Board reports aviation accidents were down in 2009. This welcome development reflected a larger trend of less overall transportation deaths. http://www.maryland-law.com/library/maryland-motor-vehicle-death-cases.cfm

U.S. civil aviation accidents decreased from 1658 in 2008 to 1551 in 2009. Fatalities decreased from 566 to 534.

General aviation accidents went down from 1566 in 2008 to 1474 in 2009 with fatalities taking a commensurate dip from 275 to 272.

So-called part 135 operations saw a reduction in accidents to a level unattained for more than 20 years.
