The Amtrak Crescent derailed in Washington, D.C. today August 2nd 2018. Amtrak's early reports are that there were no injuries. That would be welcome news but past experience leads this writer to express some skepticism. At a minimum it will cause rail chaos for VRE, MARC and of course Amtrak.
This is not the first such derailment of the Amtrak Crescent as a more damaging one took place in South Carolina in 2013.
