Anne Arundel County, Maryland police have referred a crash that led to a bicyclist's death last Wednesday to the Office of the State's Attorney for investigation for the possible filing of criminal charges.  Trish Cunnigham, of Annapolis, Maryland was struck and killed by a Honda van last Wednesday as she traveled on Riva Road near Beards Point Road in Davidsonville, Maryalnd. 

According to police, Ms. Cunningham, 50 years old, was struck by the Honda van while in the travel portion of the roadway.  There is no shoulder on the roadway on that portion of Riva Road.  A preliminary investigation revealed that Ms Cunnigham was struck when the Honda Van attempted to pass her bicycle, causing her death.  Ms. Cunningham was rushed by ambulance to Anne Arundel County Medical Center.  Unfortunately, doctors were not able to save her. She died of her injuries at the hospital.

Police investigators say alchol and speed were not factors in the crash.

Ms. Cunningham was the cross country coach at Anne Arundel High School.  Her death is a terrible loss for her family, friends, and the community.  Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and to all whose lives was affected by this fine educator.
