Pedestrians and buses do not mix well and on Wednesday evening, a Rockville, Maryland woman sustained serious injuries when she was hit by a Ride On bus.
The collision took place in Rockville at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Halpine Road. The incident took place after dark when the victim, Jila Hamidieh was crossing the intersection as a pedestrian and was hit by the turning Ride On bus.
Ms. Hamidieh was taken to Suburban Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Montgoemry County Police are attempting to ascertain how the crash took place.
Ride On buses have been involved in a number of significant crashes of late including one last year when a Ride On bus struck a Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant.

While overall Maryland and the District of Columbia have very safe transportation systems the sheer number of people using them and the nature of the buses and trains utilized results in catastrophic injuries on a fairly routine basis.
