In a reminder of the deadly Fort Totten train crash, a late night derailment of a Metro train between the Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue Stations, has shut down the Washington Metro's Red Line between NoMa and Fort Totten. No injuries are reported but information on the duration of the shut down has not been forthcoming.

Fortuitously, the derailment occurred on a "non-revenue" train late at night. The incident also had the good fortune to happen on the Friday before Labor day weekend , when overall ridership declines.

This was not the first such derailment in the area as an incident ocurredd back in April. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dr-gridlock/wp/2013/04/07/metro-train-derailed-on-red-line-on-saturday/

Repairs to the damaged track equipment will likely be undertaken over the long holiday weekend, when this section of the WMATA Red Line was slated to be closed for work.
