Sunday Morning Beltway Car Crash Causes traffic mess.

Early Sunday morning, a General Motors van struck a Maryland State Police car and another vehicle before flipping over and thus severely injuring the vehicle's occupants. The incident occurred around 3:30 am on I-495 near Suitland Road in Prince George's County.

Initial police reports suggests that the accident resulted from alcohol consumption on the part of the van driver. The Maryland State Police vehicle was pulled over on the shoulder making a traffic stop.

The crash closed down the Northbound lanes of the Beltway for several hours. The van driver and passenger both sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
